 Artist Biographies

Bruce Lazier, Producer/Trombone,  has a Bachelors Degree in performance from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Music Degree in classical trombone from Yale University. His primary teachers include Edwin “Buddy” Baker, John Swallow and Mattie Shiner. He is an active professional performer in all musical styles. His performance credits include ten years with the River City Brass Band, back up bands for Sammy Davis, Jr., Gladys Knight and the Pips, Natalie Cole, Mel Torme, Lena Horne and Rosemary Clooney among many others. Bruce has focused on being a low brass instructor and clinician for over 30 years.

Richard Auman, Arranger, Trombonist, arranger and conductor. A local musician who is known for his enthusiastic promotion of live instrumental music. 

Chris R. Hughes, Arranger, has played drums for Broadway shows, numerous recording sessions, and for a number of years for Skitch Henderson’s New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. He has enjoyed composing and arranging music for Fox News, CNN, National Geographic, The Detroit Symphony and the New York Pops. Chris is still an arranger and producer for Christian and Gospel CDs.

Jacob Yoffee, Arranger, writes in both classical and jazz genres and has won awards for his compositions, including the Randolph 5 Rothschild award and a Peabody award.  He has produced several records for big bands, neo-soul groups, jazz and contemporary pop groups.  One of his concert works for trombone quartet earned him a trip to London for performances at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Royal Academy of Music and on BBC Radio. 

Greg Bibri, Bass Trombone, is a Seneca Valley High School graduate and was a member of the PMEA District 5 Honors Band. He is currently a freshman in Music Education at Youngstown State University. Greg’s career plans are to be a music educator, specializing in low brass, along with conducting youth bands. Greg also plans to pursue a professional career as a free lance musician within the community.

Randy Bibri, Trombone, is a graduate of Youngstown State University where he majored in music performance.  While at YSU Randy was a winner of the Dana Young Artist Competition and performed with numerous chamber ensembles and jazz ensembles.  Randy is now an active freelance musician who has performed with such groups as River City Brass Band, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Wheeling Symphony, Warren Philharmonic, Greenville Symphony, and the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.  Randy has also been a low brass instructor with various high school marching bands throughout western Pennsylvania.  His hobbies include riding motorcycles, water skiing, and auto detailing.

Kevin Jackson, Trombone, is a freshman business management major at Slippery Rock University with a minor in music.  Kevin plays in many of the ensembles at SRU including second chair in the wind ensemble and the brass ensemble, and third chair in the jazz big band. Kevin graduated from Seneca Valley High School where he went to PMEA all state band his junior and senior years. Kevin has been playing since 4th grade and plans to continue to play for the rest of his life.

Curt Starr, Trombone, is currently the Associate Trombone of the West Point Concert Band.  Originally from Pittsburgh, Curt earned his Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he studied with Lee Rogers. Prior to his appointment at West Point, Curt pursued a Master of Music at Southern Methodist University, where he studied with John Kitzman the principal trombonist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Curt has twice participated in the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, and once with the Texas Music Festival in Houston.  In addition to performing in the West Point Concert Band, Curt is also a member of the West Point Brass.  

Greg Ference, Trombone, is currently a sophomore at Penn State University majoring in computer science and mathematics.  He has now been playing the trombone for 10 years.  In high school, he performed in the top concert and jazz bands at Seneca Valley High School.  During that time he performed in various PMEA events, including the PMEA All-State Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.  While in college, Greg has participated in the Penn State Blue Band and the Penn State concert band.
